What is FTC?

The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) engages students to use their knowledge and teamwork to create a working robot under specific constraints to accomplish a task. In FTC, teams of 7th-12th graders partake in tournaments around the world in order to win a variety of awards. FTC is a fantastic opportunity for students interested in gaining STEM experience because it teaches problem-solving, collaboration, and leadership inside their teams. Although FTC is a robotics competition, there are also non-technical fields open, such as marketing and documentation, which are equally if not more important than the other sub-teams, and can allow students to gain interest and passion for STEM. This competition is hosted by the organization FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), who inspire students to partake in other robotics programs, such as the FIRST Lego League and the FIRST Robotics Competition.

OUR MISSION

EPIC Labs Robotics – FTC aims to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders who can promote the accessibility of the field to communities around the world— motivating children from diverse as well as under-privileged backgrounds to approach any problem with a STEM solution, and promoting a culture of STEM competency. EPIC Labs FTC aims to do all of this while hosting a competitive program that champions gracious professionalism.

Our team is founded on the theme of learning, and growing. The problems that we work through allow us to understand STEM concepts and principles at a first hand level. All that we learn will benefit us in our future, as well as our understanding of the world. This knowledge is too beneficial for us to keep to ourselves, which leads us to another of our large themes; Sharing our knowledge. Outreach events are opportunities for us to take the knowledge that we have obtained and share it with the public in order to inspire others to begin learning and appreciating STEM that way that we have. When we share our knowledge during our various outreach events, we are allowing so many more people to benefit from what we have learned.
